Privacy policy

The short version
SelfieHelp collects no personal data. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no SelfieHelp server. Everything stays on your two phones.
Photos
The camera phone streams a live preview straight to the other phone and saves the photos you take to its own photo library (on Android, in a SelfieHelp album). The other phone shows each photo for a few seconds. If someone taps the heart on it, the camera phone sends that photo over the same direct connection and the other phone saves a copy to its own library; otherwise it keeps nothing. Nothing is recorded or uploaded.
Connecting the two phones
You pair two phones by tapping Pair on each. From then on they find each other over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth and connect directly. Each phone keeps the other's name, a random ID and a pairing key on the phone only, and you can forget a paired phone at any time.
When an iPhone and an Android phone share no Wi-Fi network, the Android phone opens a Wi-Fi hotspot for the iPhone and sends its details over Bluetooth, encrypted. The iPhone asks before joining it.
Between two Android phones, SelfieHelp uses Nearby Connections, part of Google Play services and covered by Google's privacy policy.
Permissions
- Camera: to take photos and show the live preview.
- Photos, on iPhone: to add the photos you take or keep to your library, never to read it.
- Local network, nearby devices and Bluetooth: to find and connect to the other phone.
- Location, on Android 12 and 12L only: Android requires it there to find nearby phones and open the hotspot. SelfieHelp never uses it.
